Festivals and traditions of China

Have you ever wondered why the people of ancient China worshiped, prayed, and sacrificed for  their ancestors? Because it is a way to thank them. Even the king/emperor prayed to their ancestors.

One of the most valued traits in a person is their loyalty or dedication to their parents. This is because parents are the people who gave birth to you, who raised you, and who provided you with education. For example, in the chinese culture, when a family is eating together, only when the elders have started eating can the young start eating. This is only one of many traditions that show the people’s respect towards their elders.

The Lunar New Year, or Chinese New Year, is undoubtedly one of the most important holidays for Chinese People. Some traditions or ways to celebrate include:

  1. Buying gifts beforehand because shopkeepers will also take the day off.
  2. Cleaning the house (getting rid of all the bad memories)
  3. Eating meat
  4. Decorating the house
  5. Praying to your ancestors (give them the best food)
