Chinese Martial Arts

Many people confuse martial arts with sports. Martial art is not a sport. It is a way to defend yourself, to calm yourself, and a way to make the world a better place.

The first thing every martial art master teaches their disciples, is the moral of martial arts. If you look at the ancient Chinese character, wu, carefully, you can split it into two parts. The top part, ge, is a type of weapon. The bottom part, zhi, means stop. Added together, that means to stop weapons. Basically, it means stop wars, and violence.

In China, a very popular type of fiction is called wu xia xiao shuo. This type of fiction was probably the soul of many fantasy dreams of martial arts for kids in China. This genre of books focuses on a selfless, heroic, and skilled martial artist, and it tells about his or her great adventures.
